Continuing today with our mini series on prayer, we are going to be looking at a prayer that Jesus prayed that, at face value, looks quite haunting and a bit confusing.

This post begins a mini series on prayer. As I touched on in my previous post, prayer is an issue for me sometimes because I don't always know how to approach it. What I am certain of is that we are commanded to pray, Jesus prayed, and I have experienced many personal "answers" to prayer. Today we will be looking at praying in faith and what that means.
I made it into my early twenties before I had ever heard about Calvinism. I mean, I had heard about Calvin and I knew that "Calvinism" existed but I knew absolutely nothing about reformed theology and what it meant. On the flip side, I had never heard the word "Arminianism" either but had, unbeknownst to me, held to those beliefs without the title.
It kind of goes without saying that if you don't learn the lesson material in your class, you won't pass the class. Yes, other things like attendance and missing midterms will affect your grade (I know from experience- yikes), but I would argue that actually learning the lesson material is the most essential for passing a class.
God has His ways of communicating with us: His Word and the Holy Spirit. Both of those are ways that God can "materialize" (so to speak) in our world. They are how He reveals Himself to us, how God "touches"us, if you will. How do you respond to God's touch?
Wow. It really has been almost two years. A lot has changed since then, and a lot has stayed the same. We are still in the desert of Southern California, living in the same apartment, and enjoying being married to each other. But now we have a little daughter, Indiana, and our dog, Bailey, past away last year. This post isn't really a catch-up post because I just want to dive in. I'll answer two important questions, however: Do I still love the Lord? and Do I still agree with everything I wrote?
When we look at the costs of "living in sin" we typically see the negative effects at face value and don't typically have a hard time explaining why God considers them sins and why much of the world's moral compass agrees with God's plan.
I know it has been quite a while since I have posted and I'm not exactly sure why. Perhaps I was feeling "un-inspired" or "insecure" or simply "not-called" but nevertheless I am back! Today's topic is one I have been wanting to talk about for a while. By the title I'm sure you know what's coming. I want to be clear: this is not going to be a post just bashing our generation for being vapid and self absorbed, but more so taking a look at where our culture as a whole is currently at regarding priorities and its understanding of the purpose of life. Saddle up, this is going to be a bit long.
I know. The topic seems a bit "dark" today. It's not something we typically like to bring up on a day to day basis and it may even be something that we like to pretend isn't really relevant in our present-day lives. Nevertheless, spiritual warfare is something that is alive and I believe as real today as it ever has been. When you think of spiritual warfare, I'm sure images of angels and demons fighting in a final bloody battle for control over this earth and its occupants may cross your mind. I know my mind could easily play play with that idea. But what is spiritual warfare really? Is it still relevant in this day and age? What does it have to do with us?
